Plant Sale and Art Contest

KMCB Annual Growing Green Plant Sale and Poster Art Contest

Mission and Goals:

  • Raise money to fund KMCB’s grant program
  • Publicize Montgomery County recycling centers
  • Educate about native plants and recycling
  • Demonstrate how to hold a low or no impact event
  • Provide a scholarship to a winning high school artist

Description:

Each year the KMCB Board will identify a native Texas plant to sell to earn money to provide grants to groups in Montgomery County who need funding to do environmental and beautification projects. The native plant will be the centerpiece for an educational program about the benefits of landscaping with native plants; specifically, drought resistant, disease and insect resistant, more successful growing.

Each year the locations and events at which the plants are sold may change. In 2009, pre-orders were taken and plants were picked up by purchasers at recycling centers on a specified day in April. Remaining plants were sold at events through May. In 2010, plants were sold at several events across the County beginning on April 10th. In 2011 we are again taking preorders. The featured plant is Hot Lips Salvia illustrated on the following 2011 order form:

In keeping with the goals of holding an event that has no or a low impact on the environment, plants will be available for pick-up and sale at the County recycling centers. This approach will partner KMCB and this event with the recycling centers, providing publicity for both.

Growing Green Art Poster Contest

Poster Art Contest Rules and Submission Form (2011 Deadline Passed)

Keep Montgomery County Beautiful (KMCB) is pleased to hold an annual art contest to support its Growing Green Plant Sale. We seek submissions from Montgomery County high school students. The winning submission will be featured on a poster designed to promote KMCB’s Annual Growing Green Plant Sale.

The winning artist will receive a $500 cash scholarship and will be recognized at the KMCB Volunteer Recognition Event held each year in February. Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the winning artist upon proof of acceptance and enrollment at an institute of higher learning such as university, college, trade school, certificate program or work training program.
